Airbag Innovation: new motorcycle airbag waistcoat Motoairbag®

Motorcycle airbag waistcoat MOTOAIRBAG® black/fluo ventilated certified EN1621/4 complete front and back airbag

MOTOAIRBAG® V2.0C – Complete with frontal airbag is the new version of Motoairbag® waistcoat. Well known as the largest back airbag: 15 liters inflated, in a whole surface and not only tubular, it is developed now with the same kind of protection on the front. Its new protection area grows up to 23 liters !

MOTOAIRBAG® v2.0 – COMPLETED with front airbag (MAB v2.0c) uses two separate airbag systems. One for the rear one for the front part of the body.

Comfortable and well-fitted, the waistcoat is worn over motorcycle clothing, and leaves them still appear. It was redesigned to increase comfort, especially with the addition of the front airbag.

A 3D mesh insert is now used for better ventilation. Retro-reflective details ensure good visibility. The airbag MOTOAIRBAG® is a mechanical system and uses a cable fixed to the bike. The spiral release cable already placed on the waistcoat is simply fixed with a belt (also supplied) on the motorcycle or scooter. The airbag is triggered automatically in less than a tenth of a second (80 milliseconds) when the pilot ejected. The pilot does not stay fixed to the motorcycle.

This complete V2.0C version, front and back, is composed of two separate airbags, but with one activation cable for more convenience, which divides the inside of the airbag to come to connect to two triggers, one in front, the other at the rear. C02 cartridges are the same as the standard versions.

The activation cable V2.0C this version is called “selective activation cable”. It detects the direction of the future impact and active first trigger the airbag whose activation is to prioritize, then 10/15 milliseconds later, the second one. For example, during a frontal impact, the front airbag is to be triggered first and then the rear. Or vice versa, and in a synchronized manner in case of a side impact.
Actually, it is a mechanical system that shortens the release cable to prioritize so that it starts first.

Only to confirm airbag systems have impact attenuation higher than rigid ones.

MOTOAIRBAG® let appear on a test report that the end force after impact attenuation was 1,4kN, placing the product largely in conformity with Level 2.

Reference survey

Accidents with motorcycle is completely different and complex when compared to the cars. There are not two accidents that starting from the same situations develop in same way. Nevertheless from the statistics it emerges that 90% of the accidents involves the motorcycle frontally (120° radius) the majority of the percentage of the accidents (and of the injured) happens in urban zones with speed slower than 60 km/h.
A motorcycle accident happens substantially in two phases:
In the first phase, happens the loss of control of the motorcycle consequently to an impact or to a slid and the motorcyclist is jerked away from the vehicle.
In the second phase the motorcyclist falls and hits against the typical obstacles of the road, as lamppost, kerbstones, other cars, etc.
